| beautiful squaw rock |
whenever my family would go
on a day trip to the city
or to santa rosa and a kid,
we would pass squaw rock. as far back as
i can
remember, i have been told
the legend of squaw rock and it has been
one of my favorite legends.
during my recent trip to
mendocino, i was finally able
to stop and get a lovely picture of
the rock and thought to share
the story with you all here.
the legend tells of a
beautiful indian princess who fell in love
with an indian warrior, a
love forbidden by her father. one day,
the warrior was
tragically killed in battle,
never to return to his princess.
when the princess heard word
of his death, she ran away and threw herself
from a cliff so she could
finally be with her beloved.
